Linesmen and marshals needed
Your Team Manager needs to arrange one marshal and one linesman for each game. If you can help out with any age group please advise your team manager or Nick Corbo and lets make one task a little easier for our Team Managers.
Marshal
- No match knowledge required but you must be at least 18 years of age
- Escort the match officials to and from the pitch and remain with the referee during the half time break
- Remain in the Technical Area for the duration of the match
- Discourage poor supporting and encourage a safe and orderly environment for the game eg request extras leave the Technicals areas.
- Bonus - you get to wear a hi-vis vest!
Linesman
- There is no age requirement but you need to know the current rules of the game.
- Our preference is to roster on players, parents and volunteers who have completed thier Refereeing Certificate.
- If you are available for any of the games please advise Nick Corbo or your team manager
Farewell Reno Lia
Reno Lia has confirmed he will not continue as Technical Director and Under 18s coach this season.
The GV Suns would like to thank Reno for the knowledge, expertise and leadership he brought to the Club over recent seasons and wish him success in the future.
We are finalising arrangements to replace Reno in his roles at the Club and will confirm details shortly.
Coaching our coaches
- FFV SAP coach visits Shepparton
Investing in the skills and expertise of our coaches is vital to the development of our players.
Next Tuesday 14 March, FFV Head Skills Acquisition Coach Anthony Frost will hold a SAP session for GV Suns junior coaches and other local community clubs. The focus will be on delivering a session using a ‘Whole, Part, Whole’ methodology which will be used in our SAP and NTC Talent Identification and Development Centres (TIDC).
Venue: McEwen Res
Date: Tuesday 14 March
Time: 5:30pm-7pm
Our SAP coaches along with our U12 and U13 coaches must attend.
Laws of the game - the offside rule
It all depends on where you are when the ball is played not when you receive the ball. So when the ball is played forward by your teammate you are NOT offside if
- you are on your side of the half way line
- the ball and at least two opposition players (can include goalkeeper) are inline with you or between you and the goal
- you are in an offside position, but not involved in the play
- you are not active in the play which means you aren't gaining an advantage by being offside and you aren't interfering with a play, or an opponent.
- you receive the ball directly from a goal kick, a throw-in or a corner kick.

Sports Trainers at home games
A Sports Trainer is available at each game. The Sport Trainer has level 1 & 2 sports training qualifications, and is first aid qualified.
What can the Sports Trainer help with?
The Sports Trainer can assist with:
- game strapping (ankles, knees, wrists etc),
- massage for leg soreness (hamstring, calf etc) and,
- injury management during the game.
How can you access the Sports Trainer?
On-field injuries - On game day, the trainer will rotate between games being played and teams preparing to play - first priority will always go to on-field injuries if/when they occur.
Pre-game assistance if you need taping, massage or some other pre-game assistance from the trainer you need to
1. advise your coach so they can then be in the rooms to assist
2. be at the ground early.
If you leave pre-game needs until just before game time expect to miss out!
Shepparton Sports Precinct Works continue
The works at the intersection of Packham and Brauman St will be in full swing this weekend and there will be traffic management to control traffic through this intersection - even on a Sunday!
Please follow the directions and allow time.
Codes of Conduct for everyone
We want GV Suns to be a friendly and welcoming club - and we want everyone to feel comfortable being a part of our family. Our FFV approved codes of conduct for spectators, players, parents, coaches and administrators are available from our website.
Please read the codes to understand your responsibilities and there is further information in the 2017 NPL Rules of Competition.
