Update - Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct
If you are frustrated by the wet weather changing our training and game venues, then spare a thought for the teams delivering the Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct project.
This $19m redevelopment will create a nationally significant sporting complex - which means it can host major sporting events and national championships that are normally held in capital cities or interstate. It also means we will enjoy some of the best facilities of any club in Victoria.
The following provides an update on key parts of the project and if you would like to know more or views maps and designs in more detail visit http://sportsprecinct.greatershepparton.com.au/
Community Football Complex Update
Landscaping gets underway next month along with installation of bollards and rail fencing. The grass is slowly establishing its root base.
Multi-Purpose Synthetic Field
The new multipurpose field will be ideal for a number of sports including hockey and soccer and will also provide an all-purpose wet weather training venue. Unfortunately wet weather has delayed completion to the first half of September but works to install fences, kerb and channel and electrical control gear are continuing.
Small Pavilion
This facility will provide much needed change spaces, and will cater for female and male players and officials. The original roof line was redesigned to meet the available budget and the project is on track for completion by mid-December.
East/West Linking Boulevard (Roadway)
The construction of the East/West Linking Boulevard roadway is expected to start shortly and be complete by late January 2017. The first stages are decommissioning the existing infrastructure and underground stormwater and sewer works.
The temporary fencing will not restrict pedestrian access to any of the facilities but while works are underway access past the site compound will not be available on week days. During these times users wanting access will have to enter via the western gate from Packham street.
Numurkah Road turning Lane extension - Brauman St
VicRoads requires an extension of the left hand turning land in Numurkah Road into Brauman Street, to accomodate increased traffic. The works are underway but the wet weather has delayed completion. The contractors are waiting on dry weather to help “bake out” the area before VicRoads will approve the works and allow the asphalting.
Main Pavilion
The tender for the Main Pavillion closes next week with the goal of completing works by 30 March 2017.
Numurkah Road turning lane
Currently the detailed design is with VicRoads for approval. Once approved it will go to public tender. These works will see road widening, including kerb and channel, surface drains, service infrastructure, concrete works, landscaping and various associated works. The major change to the entry is that there will be “no right turn” available when exiting the sport precinct.
The $19 million Shepparton Sports Precinct redevelopment is has $7.19 million from the Australian Federal Government, $750,000 from Victorian State Government, $200,000 from sporting clubs contributions and the Greater Shepparton City Council contributing the remaining (about half) project cost.
