SAP Update - Gala day 18 August @ Darebin
In addition to games against Murray United, the FFV has scheduled a SAP gala day for Saturday 18 August at the State Football Centre at Darebin. FFV is expected to confirm further details shortly.
2019 Junior Trials
With only seven rounds to go we are already beginning preparation for season 2019. Like last year we intend to begin 2019 season trials in early October with squads confirmed by late November. This gives us time for some pre-christmas team building and training sessions before we start training in mid-late January. These timelines may seem very early but its worth noting that this year the season commenced in February 2018 - a fortnight earlier than in previous years.
2019 - saturdays or sundays?
The short answer is we don’t know. Each year in late November we must submit a schedule to FFV for approval - but before we do we need to work through sharing use of the sports precinct amongst three leagues, SJSA, BASL and NPL and with Council. Over coming months we will work through this process. The FFV usually releases the seniors fixture first - around Christmas time with the junior NPL fixtures confirmed early in the new year.
GV Suns players moving onto success
It's great to see so many former GV Suns juniors achieving great success.
- Olivia Saron and Sophia Varley were selected in the Victorian U15 girls team and travelled to Coffs Harbour this month to compete in the National Youth Championships.
- Josh Rachele has been selected in the Australian Under 16 camp in Sydney as they prepare for September's 2018 AFC U16 Championships in Malaysia.
- Gianluca Iannucci will join Melbourne City's senior squad this season and was part of Melbourne City's win in a pre-season friendly against Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters, in India on Tuesday night.

AFS Tournament (U7 - U17) - 26-28 October
We recognise our GV Suns players, coaches, team managers and families commit to a long season and for this reason we have chosen not to enter official GV Suns junior teams in the Australian Football Skool (AFS) tournament in Shepparton on 26 -28 October.
We encourage all our age groups to enter a team if they want and you are welcome to include non-GV Suns players. The tournament can be a great way to introduce potential players and to recognise the amazing development we see each year in each age group.
In the next few weeks we will confirm whether we intend to enter our GV Suns SAP squads in the tournament.
Please talk with your team manager if you want to enter a team - GV Suns may be able to assist with playing kits. http://footballskool.com.au
Registrations close 26 September and some age groups are already filled.

It's a long season, there's a bit of fatigue and some niggling (and some more serious) injuries
Seniors, juniors, coaches, volunteers, parents, siblings are all likely to be feeling a bit fatigued by this stage of the year (absence of a junior newsletter for the past two weeks indicates it's hit us too!).
Physical fatigue can be normal for players, it requires good management to prevent injuries.
We spoke to Scott, seniors trainer, to get some tips;
- don't get slack on the warm up, both pre game and pre training - stretching is important!
- MAKE SURE post match recovery is done properly
- try a radox bath after training and games
... some advice for volunteers and parents, drink more coffee, see the fantastic improvements all the squads have made (win/loss ratio not great for most age groups, but the improvements are still there), drink a cup of tea, think about that great family time spent in the car on the way to Melbourne...and another cup of coffee..
Speaking of injuries; best wishes to Rhyss from U15s as he recovers from an ACL rupture
Lost Anything??
Recognise anything in the pic below? Catch up with Fiona Carey to organise collection.
If anyone has found a GV Suns long sleeve top please contact the U15s as Zac is missing his.
