Match Reports
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, this year our match reports will rotate through the squads with two reports each week. This will allow our coaches to give greater perspective on what they are focusing on during each cycle - and how well its working on game days. This week it's our U14s and U16s.
U14s

Our 14s took their foot off the accelerator on Sunday against Heidelberg United. Our first half was hampered by an injury to one of our centre backs early in the game forcing a reshuffle. However we hampered ourselves by being sloppy in possesion or taking too many touches on the ball. This slowed down our ball movement allowing our opponents to get organised and compact.
The second half was much better however and we started to pop the ball around nicely.
Tuesday night's training was very poor;the worst for the year and the players were told that it was below the line for NPL Football. They must be able to accept praise and some honesty. I'm pleased to report Thursday's session was superb. We’ll continue to strive for high standards.
I wish all players and parents a happy easter.
U16s
Paul Nieuwenhuizen
This week saw us take on Heidelberg for a win.
During the week at training we worked on winning the ball back quickly and then effectively moving the ball forward. Before the game the boys were reminded about staying in control and working together to encourage rather than criticise each other when things go wrong.
We started the game well putting pressure on our opponents which resulted in a couple of turnovers that allowed us to score a few early goals. This resulted in the boys relaxing and playing some good football while still applying pressure on Heidelberg. A lapse just before halftime saw Heidelberg pull back a goal.
At halftime the boys were congratulated for sticking to the team task and reminded not to get ahead of themselves.
The second half was very much end to end with a flurry of goals from both teams entertaining the spectators. However, despite our ascendency, we had two players sent off due to a spur of the moment decision and lack of discipline.
Despite a fantastic result, our lack of humility resulted in some behaviour that was unnecessary at the end of the game. The boys were reminded that whatever the outcome that we always “Win with humility, lose with grace, and do both with dignity”.
I hope everyone enjoys the easter break and comes back refreshed.
