Match Reports
Under 12s - Tim Nelson
Long trip with limited players last Sunday, but for the kids that played I can't take my hat off enough. Their efforts were outstanding!
First game off as evenly contested for the first 3/4. The pitch was wider then what the players are use too and they adapted well. Would like to thank Mitch from the under 13's for keeping our first game.
Second game again was a top effort with Keilan again putting the ball in the back of the net. Not having a bench really took its toll on the players. It as by no means one way traffic as we did our fair share in our attacking half. The whole day I did not hear any negative comments or see any negative attitude which is something I am so proud of the kids.
We have a number of Melbourne games this back half of the season. I encourage full commitment from all players and parents. We have exactly 10 players left which will be reduced to 9 in a couple of weeks!

TThe kids played with great tensity to day and with a forward press tommy scored 2 great goal thanks to the help from Luca,Max and Aden.
Fi did a good job in goals in the first game and Reece and Brodie in the second game.
After going 1 up in the second game in the first 5 minutes we ended up 1-1 at half time, with changes in the second half we went down by 9/1 with a great own goal by Max LOL.
All the kids have showed great improvement through out the year. Have a great holiday Penas. see you when you get back

Our first away game for quite a while was always going to be a challenge! Training this week consisted of working hard into space to receive the ball. This is so you can open up your body and control the ball on your back foot, giving you more options to deliver the next pass, forwards or backwards. We always did plenty of shooting practice on Friday, which was much needed.
Our first half against Box Hill was kicking up hill and into the wind. That said, Box Hill controlled the game. They kept possession, switched play regularly and created chances. To go in at half time by just 1 goal to zero showed our defensive structure was holding up.
The second half was even tougher. Unfortunately, we had a few players suffering through injury and had to shuffle the team a couple of times and add a couple of under 12 players who stepped up to help. Firstly, well done to those two boys who gave it everything and did an awesome job for the team.
We eventually went down 3-0 but you could not fault our effort. We end the game with at least 5 players carrying injuries with a suspected broken nose, tonsillitis and other foot and leg injuries. Let’s hope we are all fit ready for Bulleen next week!!!

Our aim going into this match was to improve on our last performance against Box Hill. We prepared well for the match and went in very confident of an improved performance.
This was a standout performance for the way the u14s applied them selves and never gave up. We had a goal disallowed and we didn't stop, we went a goal down and we didn't stop, we went 2 goals down and we didn't give up. We clawed one goal back and we kept on pushing for a equalizer.
For a coach and a spectator this was one of the games that stood out and was very pleasing to watch.
Big Thankyou to Gerang and Tutu for stepping up and helping out..

Going into the week’s game, the team worked on playing the ball into forwards quickly and efficiently.
This week we welcomed back Anthony Damchev after 4 weeks away. We started the game putting Box Hill under pressure in their midfield and defence areas and forcing several errors. The result of the pressure was a goal after winning the ball back early in the Box Hill half, however Box Hill soon drew level after a passage of play in which our players failed to trust themselves or their teammates by holding onto the ball too long and not backing their first instinct. The team continued to push forward while applying pressure on Box Hill. The desire to push forward, meant we had to rely some brave goalkeeping and defence.
Halftime, the message was to stay positive and continue the great effort from the first half. The second half saw neither team create any real scoring chances in the first 20 minutes. After this the game opened up, with each team having the chance to score a couple of goals but unable to do so. With the game, seemly heading for a draw, a lack of awareness saw us push players forward for a free kick but left us exposed at the back when we earned a free kick. With Box Hill dealing with the free kick they quickly broke forward and earned a free kick on the edge of the penalty box. Despite a great effort by James in goal after the ball was deflected we conceded a goal with the final kick of the game.
The team should be proud of their performance despite the loss. A thanks to James, Teng and Marcus for backing up from the under 14s. A great performance by these boys.
Under 16s
It was a tough afternoon for the 16s on Sunday. With 5 players unavailable it was a challenge that the boys relished. Our focus during the week was on zone defending/BPO "shape" and I was very pleased with the application to tasks this week. Against Murray United I thought we were very poor; this week was an honourable loss under the circumstances.
We set up to press in the middle third and to be a narrow 4-5-1 out of possesion and to be really aggressive in transition and get our fullbacks to really push on when we won the ball back. Full credit to the boys, they looked really organised and compact. Box Hill's goals came from mistakes that we need to eradicate moving forward
In the second half we had quite a few scoring opportunities on the back of driving runs in wide attacking areas,we got some nice crosses into the 18YB and were very unlucky not to score a couple of goals. There were some really powerful overlapping runs from our fullbacks that really put box hill under pressure. On a side note refereeing was very poor,it cost us a couple of goals and the boys became very frustrated however I was very unhappy with our players engaging with match officials. Let's concentrate on the things in a game the we actually have control of and push on in our football development⚽️

Training saw Tommy G work on defensive zones and positioning as it was something his 16's boys let themselves down with the previous week. It was a good session in general but we still need to see more numbers at training.
Game day saw us travel to Box Hill United for a match we definitely felt confident with before kick off. Once again we relied on the younger boys to step up. This week we called on the services of Clayton Scott and Justin Iaria made his debut for us. Lucas slotted in at right back whilst Logan took the spot between the sticks.
If you had to decide a winner on the stats of shots on goal and shots on target then Box Hill were the clear winners but what they didnt expect was a goal keeper and defence that were resolute and full of heart for the whole match. The boys went 1-0 around the 20 minute mark from a Hakan freekick which was expertly met by a towering header by Micky C who powered into an empty net. We rode our luck for the rest of the half and nearly conceded just before half time.
Second half was much to the same tune with constant Box Hill pressure but our boys stuck to the game plan and nearly snatched a win. Box Hill went down to 10 men but to their credit they kept on pressing and attacking and got just rewards with 2 late goals against tiring legs.
It was disappointing to come away without a point after leading for so long but our boys have shown much improvement and desire since the 10-1 loss to Richmond. Thanks to the 15's, 16's, Clayton and Justin. Hope these boys can keep on helping us out. Best on ground for me was Logan. Awesome game in goal.
