Match Reports - 1 July

In the freezing conditions the kids put in a great effort against Richmond.
With no one on the bench it was a great chance for the kids to really settle into a role. Most of the kids know their positions now and what it takes to fore fill their specific role. Kyan and Reece are probably our 2 players that can play around the park which can help give the kids some relief when needed.
No doubt in our first game our second half was much better as we did most of the attacking. Kyan, Jai, Ethan and Aiden alll had a run in goals and all saved a constable amount. All kids are rotating through the goals and for no one to kick up a fuss about going in makes me proud that they are doing a role for their teammates.
Second game. Although we feel away at the end. The kids can show when they can get a sniff how much they improved and lift. So in a couple of week I will be looking for the same improvement.

Another game, another opposition team near the top of the table. With no easy games in this league, the team is tested every week and this one was no exception. With a guest coach appearance at training this week from Stuart Vance, I felt we were ready for the challenge ahead of us.
After a heavy defeat the previous week, we had to get back to basics. Teamwork, effort and simple soccer! We had an excellent game against Richmond and on any other day we may well have come away with a win. We competed, defended well and created quality chances but were just short of the finishing touch. I think after our tough run of games, the players were feeling the pressure of getting a positive result and were snatching at our opportunities we created.
Right until the last minute we were still very much in the game, and it finished with our free-kick which went just wide. A 2-1 defeat on the scoreboard, but a small win in the way we needed to play to head towards our next good result!

Mid week training was all about combination play, one two's. Friday's training was a shooting clinic put on by GV Suns' finest Craig Carley.
We have been working on match preparation for 3 weeks now. What routine you can go through prior to our match. Playing the perfect game through your mind the night before over and over. I believe preparation is the key, not preparing is preparing to fail. By preparing is preparation for success.
Because of this we are becoming more focused on game day, this showed in the first half on Saturday. Our concentration was strong and our team work was great which gave us the match in the end. Great work guys.
Enjoy the week off.

The team task for this week was to deny our opponent the time and space when they have the ball, which was our focus at training during the week.
We found ourselves 1-0 down a few minutes into the game due to a lack of concentration. To the team's credit they woke up and worked on the getting back into the game. They were rewarded with a wonderful counter attacking goal a few minutes before halftime, that came about from great ball movement. However, we conceded another goal right on half time due to poor decision making and a lack of teamwork.
The second half saw us camped in the opposition's half for lengthy periods of time but unable to find the end result. We again conceded a 3rd goal due to the lack of effort by our forwards and midfield that resulted in our defence being put under pressure. A change in formation to a 3-5-3 after the goal seemed to awaken the team and their work effort lifted. The desire to push forward however meant we conceded a fourth goal just on full time.
The difference between the teams on the weekend was not great but one team worked as one, while the other relied on a few to carry the work load. Though my comments may seem harsh, the group has come along way this season but must work as one to ensure they get positive results.
I believe that the efforts of the last few weeks have caught up with the team and the weekend's bye will recharge their batteries.

The training session leading upto the Richmond game focused on some hard running to start things off and we ended it with some shooting and crossing to keep the boys entertained.
We knew Richmond would be a tough opponent and under normal circumstances we may have given them a great game and been extremely competitive but on this occasion our playing stocks were depleted to the point of only fielding 5 regular 18's boys and thankfully having so many 15's boys ready to step up.
From the kick off Richmond monstered our younger boys as they were physically stronger and more advanced in their skills but it didn’t stop our boys from having a crack. We had boys playing in different positions and playing a different style to what they are normally used to. The big tick was that they didn’t stop trying, didn’t stop tackling and didn’t drop their heads.
At half time we were 5-0 down but the boys didn’t come into the huddle with heads down. We still had 45 minutes to play and they were going to give a massive crack. We played very well in the second half and it was only the tired legs that probably caused the score to end at 10-1. Hamad Agog scored a superb freekick before full time right after CJ Saron hit the bar from a freekick from the same spot.
Big thanks to Bowdie, Logan, Vinnie from the 16's and Moses, Ferg, Daniel, Darcy, Joel, Stefan from the 15's.
