Congratulations Shaun

Congratulations to the GV Suns' Shaun Kane who was named in the NPL2 Victoria-East team of the month for June. Great effort!

Willie Sauiluma captains Somoa into OFC 2017

GV Suns Under 16 player, Willie Sauiluma, captained the Somoa Under 17 team that will progress to the 2017 Oceania Football Confederation in Tahiti. Willie scored the match winning goal in the deciding game against the Cook Islands. Well done Willie!

Two GV Suns players have been selected in the School Sports Victoria Under 12 team to play in Perth next month. Garang Kuol and James Nieuwenhuizen were named in the 14 man squad - good luck boys!

Game Wraps

It was a good performance for us against Dandenong City. We started the match well and felt really comfortable in the opening 35 minutes. The positioning and structure were quite good. Our passes were a little off but overall we were playing quite well.  We lost our shape a little in the last 10 minutes of the first half which let DC back into the match which was disappointing.

We created a lot of chances in the first half and I believe and I have said this before that we need to be more clinical in front of goal to take the pressure off the team. On the flipside, our defence needs to be rock solid at all times to deny any half chances for the other team.

Second half we went down to 2-1 as we had another lapse in concentration and we needed to change up the tactics a little to get the points.  I believe we have only really changed tactics purely to win a game a hand full of times this season which is acceptable for us as our playing style usually gets us the results we need.

Big Ramos was pushed up the pitch and he has been advising me that he is a centre forward which I strongly disagree with but occasionally I don't mind eating humble pie. He scored a cracker from 35 yards which was once of the nicest individual efforts we have seen this season.

Our fitness has been a talking point for the staff and how fresh we seem to be especially in the last 15 minutes of a match. This game was another demonstration of this point as we scored 3 goals in the space of 15 minutes and took the points we deserved.  Well done to the boys. We have 8 very big games coming up and no bigger than Murray this weekend.

Good luck to all the junior teams as they have had a two week break and I bet they will be itching to get back into it.
