This year our match reports will rotate through the squads with two reports each week. This will allow our coaches to give greater perspective on what they are focusing on during each cycle - and how well its working on game days.

Fair to say there were some apprehensive feelings in the rooms prior to our game on Saturday.
The big flash Melbourne City were in town and they really looked the part, very professional in their sky blue Nike outfits. They were exuding confidence and carrying that ‘air’ of expectation that they were going to win, not only win, but win easily.
During the week we worked on playing out from the back and this really came into play on Saturday as the guys certainly held their own and were able to control the ball for lengthy periods, even managing to create a few goal scoring opportunities. Unfortunately we couldn’t convert any.
Our defence was tight and we didn’t allow too much free space at all - halftime 0-0.
At the break, the mood was very upbeat, as it should be in light of the first half we had just played – without doubt, our best half of football so far this season. The focus in the second half was to maintain it, continue to create space by moving the ball by passing it rather than dribbling.
As the game panned out, the ball did flow from end to end somewhat with both teams playing some good stuff, unfortunately we were unable to convert any our chances and they did manage to sneak one in off the post……final result a 0-1 loss. Although we play on a large pitch, this can be a game of inches! Just not our way today!
Pre-game the key message to the guys was all about the R word = respect.
At the GV Suns it is a non-negotiable that we must respect the Referee, our Opponents, Ourselves ….pretty much everyone really.
However, my point as per earlier, was about the respect we get in return - our opponents were a bit cocky – not just today, but every week - they look at the fixture and think that they’ve got an easy win – all they have to do is turn up – and this means we have to go out and earn it ......we had to play well .....well enough to demand it! WE DID THAT TODAY!
Well done all.
