Are you registered to play?
You willl have a very short season if you have not completed your online registration at www.myfootball.com.au. If you played last year you will need your FFA number and the site provides ways to confirm your number if you can't remember it.
All players and coaches must be registered before our first game on 4 March 2017 - no registration means no insurance means no time on the pitch - no exceptions!
Collect your 2017 season family pass

2017 Juniors kickoff with Northern Rivers Derby!
Our first 2017 junior game kicks off at 10 am Saturday 4 March when we take on Murray United at Latrobe University, Wodonga. We will have a 'dress rehearsal' at home next Sunday .
2017 fixtures - there will be changes
Clubs can request games be postponed or times and locations adjusted. These changes are usually confirmed by Wednesday evening prior to the game however later changes are not impossible. For this reason the current fixture is a guide only and we encourage you to check in with your team manager to confirm arrangements each week.
How to subscribe to our Club newsletter
If you have more than one email address or you would like to add another family member or friend to the mailing list its a very easy process. - Open up the newsletter in your browser (there's a link at the top right of the newletter above the header)
- Click on the tab 'subscribe' that appears at the top of the screen on the left.
- Enter your details.
Your 2017 Team Managers
Team Managers are the key to making sure your team is ready to take the pitch each week. Not sure when or where you a playing, need help with transport, not sure about what you need to wear or you know you are not available to play? Start by notifying your Team Manager as early as possible.
Make sure you save your Team Manager's number into your phone and send them a text if you don't think they have your number.

Help your Team Manager
Each weekend your Team Manager has a range of tasks to complete and you can help.
Players
- Advise as soon as possible if you are not available to play. If you know there are rounds when you will not be available advise your Team Manager immediately.
- Arrive on time - the Team Manager needs players to sign in an hour before the game and provide the completed team sheet to the Refs at least 30 minutes before the game. If you are late you make completing this task difficult.
- Advise of injuries early - you need to advise your Team Manager of any injuries. If you expect the Club trainers to assist you with strapping or other pregame prep then make sure you are onsite a full hour before your game. While matches are underway the trainers' priority is to players on the pitch.
- Return your kit before you leave the change rooms - The Team Manager collects all socks, shorts and shirts following the game. Players are not permitted to take match kit home with them.
Volunteer
- as a team marshal to escort the match officials to and from the pitch and to ensure we provide a safe and orderly environment for the game eg request extras leave the Technicals areas. We must provide 1 marshal for every game - home and away. No match knowledge required but you must be at least 18 years of age and you can volunteer to assist other age groups.
- as a linesman to, as the name suggests, run the lines. We must provide 1 linesman for every game - home and away. There is no age requirement but you need to know the current rules of the game. Our preference is to roster on players, parents and volunteers who have completed thier Refereeing Certificate.
- to help in the canteen. Whether its set up, pack up or peak hour your help is always welcome across the season.
- to set up and/or pack up the pitches. This involves rolling out/away the goals, putting out or collecting the corner flags, collecting the chairs from the technical areas and rubbish from around the grounds.
If you are interested in any of these activities or you think you could give it a go with a little guidance or coaching from a regular please let us know. You will be surprised how much fun you can have!
Its easier if everyone volunteers or simply pitches in when asked but if this doesn't work Team Managers will look at more formal arrangements including rosters.
Game Day Reminders
Player preparation
1. What to wear on game day. All players are expected to arrive at the ground in their Club uniform. During hot weather this includes your clean training polo shirt and training shorts and as we move into the cooler months players will be required to arrive in their team tracksuits including your zip top tracksuit jacket.
2. Arrive on time. Arriving on time is important because it gives our players time to warm up and to discuss the game plan and priorities. We know our game schedule involves some very early starts for many of our players but please make the effort to be on time. If you are running late call your Team Manager - don't just send an SMS.
3. Sleep, Eat and Hydrate. How you prepare for a game has a huge impact on how you play and its never too late to develop pre game habits and routines that will help you play at your best.
- Sleep - google Wayne Rooney and his first tip for pregame preparation is to make sure you get enough quality sleep - that's at least eight hours and it doesn't include travel time to the game!
- Hydrate - no point guzzling once you get to the ground! It's an old rule of thumb but if you are well hydrated, then an hour before your game (so around the time you need to be at the ground) you should be looking for the toilets not the canteen. Start the night before and keep it simple - water is just fine.
- Eat. We want you hungry to win - not hungry for food! Eat a good carbohydrate based meal 2-3 hours before you play and follow it up with a lighter snack (eg bananas) at least an hour before kickoff. Some of our games are scheduled for times that would be your usual lunch or dinner time so plan what you will eat. It's not a crazy idea to treat game day like a school day - bring your lunch along and enjoy the chips and hot dogs after the game.

Rules on and off the pitch
1. Keep out of the Technical Areas - You are not permitted to enter the Technical Areas unless you are playing, coaching or managing the teams that are on the pitch. If your game is finished or yet to begin you are not permitted in this area.
Section 3.2 of the 2017 NPL Rules of Competition is very specific about who can enter the technical areas during a match for example
- A maximum of 9 people are allowed in the area (including the coach, manage, subs, trainer and first aiders).
- Everyone must be seated and only 1 person may stand up at any time.
- All persons must be wearing colours that clearly distinguish them from all players and Match Officials on the field of play e.g. a bib, jackets.
- Suspended players or club associates are not allowed in the Technical Area
To ensure we comply with the Rules, marshals monitor the areas and will request you leave if you shouldn't be there.
Where are the Technical Areas? There are two technical areas - one marked for each team alongside the pitch and either side of the halfway line.
At GV Suns home games and when games are played side by side on the front grounds the area between the pitches is also deemed to be a Technical Area and closed to non-players and spectators.
3. Respect the Team Managers, Coaches, Referees and Officials. Most are volunteers who are making it possible for you or your son/daughter to play in this competition. You may not agree with everything they do but inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and can attract hefty fines for the club and you.
Changeroom etiquette
1. Keep it tidy! How you treat the clubrooms says a lot about you - and no one at GV Suns is so important that they can't clean up after themselves.
2. Mobile phones, cameras and other mobile recording devices should not be used in the change rooms. The change rooms are the one location where the Technical Director, your coach and team manager can speak with your playing group without interuption or distraction, so lets keep it that way. Once your playing group begins its prematch talk all devices need to be turned off and stored securely.
3. No visitors, parents or siblings are allowed in the change rooms. Again, the change rooms are a meeting space dedicated to the team, coach and team manager. If you are a visitor or parent and need to get in touch with someone in the changes rooms, phone or text the team manager (given point 2 you shouldn't expect anyone else to answer their phone!).
Managing your injuries
Preseason is notorious for injuries as players' enthusiasm exceeds their fitness.
If you have an injury make sure your coach and team manager know so we can provide appropriate match time and training activities. We also have access to team trainers who can assist with managing your recovery.
Some injuries will require you to provide written advice from your medical practitioner eg physio, doctor to confirm you are ok to return to training and play.
In our younger age groups we encourage parents to be involved in this process - a few weeks out and a properly managed recovery is so much better than a permanent or recurring injury.
Codes of Conduct for everyone
We want GV Suns to be a friendly and welcoming club - and we want everyone to feel comfortable being a part of our family. Our FFV approved codes of conduct for spectators, players, parents, coaches and administrators are available from our website.
Please read the codes to understand your responsibilities and there is further information in the 2017 NPL Rules of Competition.
