Really good effort by this he kid against Dandenong Thunder. Training during the week was probably our best training week.
I wouldn't call it a brain fade - more a lapse in concentration by the kids after starting the first game off so well. Take nothing away from the opposition, the goals they scored were top notch! After half time and for the next 3 halves the kids barely gave a chance for Dandy to easily put the ball past us. Our defence is our strongest point and work well as a team. I have no doubt if we can do they same up front the results will fall our way.
Zach was strong in goals. Jai continues to shows that when he has eyes for the ball he can win any contest. The kids were shuffled around a fair bit with plenty of the kids showing they can play all over the park.

Great goal By Flynn last weekend, there was some fantastic moments especially from Jude with a great defensive block.
We get so close to a win then loose concentration, so this is something we will work on over the next 3 to 4 weeks, the kids need to keep working on their ball control and hitting targets.
There was some great saves by Liam, Rhys and Brodie in goals this week (goal keeping training is showing some great improvement). Keep up the hard work kids and the rewards will come.

More of the same for training this week. Keeping possession for longer in the final third and continuing to improve on our first touch as we still have some players either struggling with technique or not alert and on their toes ready for receiving a pass.
We also went with a slight change of formation this week, playing with two attacking midfielders and one defensive midfielder instead of vice versa. The aim of this change was to have more options in the final third to keep the ball for longer and in turn create more chances. This should also have a positive effect on our defence who would then see less of the ball and not be under as much pressure.
The first half went like clockwork! We scored twice and could have had more, but just as importantly keeping Dandenong to limited chances from outside the area and keeping a clean sheet. The second half was very different. We lost our shape, were second to every loose ball and couldn’t string two passes together to move the ball into the opposition half.
First Dandenong scored from a corner. Our defending was not what it should have been as no-one seemed to compete for the initial corner or the loose ball which ended up with a tap in. This is something we have worked on at training as we have conceded a few goals from set pieces this season but we clearly need to put plenty more work into this. With continued pressure, Dandenong managed to equalise with a shot from the edge of the box, again after we failed to clear a loose ball. Soon after this, we did manage a break away, going clear of their defence in a one on one with their goalkeeper which ended in a cool finish to go back ahead.
From the re-start, we had all our players back in position and from there we kept our shape. Dandenong kept pressing and although both teams had some good chances, the game ended with a solid win. Great result!

During the week our focus was on effective possession, not forcing the ball forward, but playing the ball when a team mate presented, if the pass was not on we wanted to re circulate the ball to change the point of attack. It took us a little time to settle into the match and once we did we were passing well. This type of play will take some time to embed as we are all so used to playing a helter scelter counter attack game. Well done to all for keeping to the team task. Welcome back James N on playing his come back game and well done to Olivia on a cracking volley she scored in second half. The ball was in the back of the net before the keeper even thought about diving.

The team went into the weekend's game with a great attitude that has been evident the last 3 or 4 weeks.
The team task was to try control possession of the ball and not force the play when moving forward. The boys started the game slowly and soon found themselves on the back foot after conceding an early goal from a goal mouth scramble. To their credit the team quickly woke up and looked to control the game by effective movement both with the ball. The team dealt with any attacks from Dandenong Thunder while creating a number of goal scoring chances, which we could not capitalise on.
We went in to halftime 1-0 down but still with the attitude that we could still get a positive result. We focused on the positives achieved in the first half and also emphasising the need to stay positive with our communication and body language.
The second half began and we soon found ours behind 5-0. The great work from the first half quickly disappeared and so did the positive attitude within the team. While disappointed with the scoreline, the boys continued to try to control possession when moving the ball forward.
Training this week we will focus on positive language and what outcomes the players can influence. Remember we cannot change an event that has happened. The only positive influence we can have after an event is the next contest.

During the last couple weeks at training we have worked on maintaining the ball – as well as attacking from wide areas……the success of these trainings is varied, as not enough of the lads have been at training for various reasons (quite a few train with the seniors/20’s)…. As we now have the expertise of Craig Carley and Stuart Vance at trainings, we would hope to see much more engagement and application by the lads.
On game day, the mood in the change-rooms pre-game was sensational – as we had expected a few of the 20’s lads had dropped back to make the squad much stronger – everybody was up and about and feeling very confident.
Unfortunately this didn’t extend to our play on the field ……
The first 20 mins the game was really even and although we weren’t pushing hard forward, our defensive unit was very sound. As has been the case throughout this season, we conceded a goal due to an error at the back which saw us over extended to one side leaving holes, which were made worse by “walking” midfielders.
After a good period of stabilisation a second goal was conceded which saw the heads drop and we then struggled through to half time down 2 nil.
The second half saw us back in the game to some extent however we still struggled to provide any real dangerous attacks on their goal. Unfortunately, at the 75 minute mark we let a 3rd in and with that heads dropped along with standard of play allowing them way too much time and space.
Despite their upbeat prematch attitudes, the lads were flat, they looked tired and lethargic. Let's all get to training and see if we can turn this around.
